EyecareX Named a Startup Spotlight in VSP Vision's "The Practice of the Future" Report

We're proud to share that EyecareX has been featured as a Startup Spotlight in VSP Vision's latest Futurist Report, "The Practice of the Future," an interactive look at the technologies, trends, and models reshaping the modern eye care practice, produced by the VSP Global Innovation Center.

VSP is the largest vision benefits company in the United States, serving over 90 million members through a network of more than 40,000 doctors worldwide. When an organization of that scale puts together a forward-looking report on where the industry is headed, and includes your platform in it, that's a meaningful signal, not just for us, but for what it says about where pre-testing and practice technology are actually going.

In the report's Pre-Test Room, EyecareX is spotlighted alongside two other companies, Heru and Ibisvision, as representative of how emerging technology is reshaping pre-testing. In the report's breakdown of pre-test components, EyecareX is listed among the technologies enabling comprehensive case history, colour vision, visual acuity testing and extraocular motility & vergence testing to be completed asynchronously, ahead of the in-clinic visit. EyecareX also appears in the report's Resource Guide under Automated Refraction & Pretesting (Software).

The recognition follows EyecareX being named a finalist in the 2026 VSP Vision Innovation Challenge.

VSP's writeup describes EyecareX as an AI-powered platform enabling patients to complete components of pre-testing at home on their smartphones, noting the platform's potential to meaningfully reduce exam chair time and free up capacity for providers to see more patients. Since the report calls this out specifically, we wanted to walk through what that actually looks like in practice, not just that it exists, but how it works and what it changes for a clinic day to day.

What the pre-test workflow actually does

EyecareX's e-test workflow is Health Canada approved and lets patients complete visual acuity, color vision, and ocular motility testing at home, on their own smartphone, before they ever arrive at the clinic, no equipment, no app download, done in under 10 minutes.

Results flow directly into the patient's chart ahead of their appointment. By the time the patient sits down with their optometrist, the pre-test data is already there, no separate device, no manual re-entry, no waiting on a technician to run through the same steps in person.

Why this matters for chair time

Traditional pre-testing happens in the chair, at the start of the visit, using clinic time and staff time that could otherwise go toward the exam itself or the next patient. Moving that step to before the appointment shifts the constraint: instead of every patient consuming a fixed block of in-clinic pre-test time, that time gets reclaimed for actual clinical work.

This is the mechanism behind the kind of chair-time reduction VSP's report points to for at-home pre-testing more broadly: the pre-test isn't eliminated, it's simply moved to a point where it doesn't compete with the clinic's limited chair capacity.

How this fits into the rest of the practice

Pre-testing doesn't operate in isolation inside EyecareX. Once a patient books, a pre-test invitation goes out automatically by SMS and email. Results land in the chart before the visit.
